Chapman and Cutler LLP is proud to announce that the firm’s Chicago office has been certified LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. The certification comes 11 months after Chapman moved to 320 South Canal, a newly constructed, LEED Gold and WELL Building Platinum building in Chicago’s West Loop.
“Chapman is committed to long-term sustainability—in our business practices, in our purchasing power, and in the work we do for our clients,” said Bill Libit, Chapman’s Chief Operating Partner. “Being awarded LEED certification demonstrates our commitment to doing our part to lower carbon emissions and provide a healthier environment for the people who work with us and meet with us.”
“We are very proud that the sustainable business and operational practices we have implemented in our Chicago office are actively supporting environmental and human health,” said Chapman’s Chief Facilities Management and Workplace Strategies Officer, Doug Domenick. “To achieve LEED Gold, we focused on practical and measurable strategies that improve indoor environmental quality and save water, energy, and materials.”
In addition to firm initiatives, Chapman also advocates for environmental sustainability in the legal profession. Chapman is a member and Doug Domenick sits on the board of directors of the Law Firm Sustainability Network, a nonprofit organization made up of law firms and legal departments dedicated to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Chapman has been involved with the Network since 2014, helping to make recommendations and set best practices for other firms to follow. Chapman’s Chicago office green practices and office design have also been the subject of featured articles in Blueprint magazine and Chicago Lawyer magazine.
