Overview
Chapman and Cutler LLP’s State and Local Government Obligations Private Placement Group is a cross-departmental group drawn from the Firm’s National Public Finance, Securities and Tax Departments. Members of the Group represent banks, insurance companies and other institutional investors in the structuring, purchase, placement and securitization of State and local government obligations issued or entered into by State and local government units in any of the 50 States and the District of Columbia. State and local government obligations may be in the form of conventional municipal bonds or municipal finance leases and loan obligations, may be federally tax-exempt, taxable or tax credit obligations and may, in appropriate circumstances, be issued on behalf of nonprofit healthcare organizations and universities that qualify under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The extensive knowledge and experience of the Group uniquely qualifies its members to represent buyers and sellers of portfolios of municipal assets, credit enhancement providers for State and local government obligations and sponsors and investors in municipal securitization programs.
Members of the Group are actively involved in national organizations, including the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the Association for Governmental Leasing & Finance and the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association. Members of the Group have served on the Steering Committee for the annual Bond Attorneys Workshop, have acted as panelists on a broad range of topics of current interest for each of these organizations and have written and spoken extensively.
