Chapman and Cutler LLP mourns the loss of retired partner, colleague, and friend, Craig Fishman, who passed away on April 7, 2025. He was 64.
Craig joined Chapman as a partner and founding member of the Washington, DC office in 2012. His practice focused on representing financial institutions in a wide variety of structured finance transactions and syndicated credit facilities, representing issuers, asset-backed commercial paper conduits, and bank lenders, and working with many types of financial assets. Craig retired from Chapman’s partnership in 2024 and continued to practice law as Of Counsel at the firm.
Prior to joining Chapman, Craig served as Of Counsel in the Structured Finance and Banking and Finance groups of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. He also served as General Counsel and Senior Vice President to Allstate Financial Corporation from 1991 to 1996, moving into the position of President and Chief Executive Officer in 1996. From 1987 to 1991, Craig was an associate in the Corporate Department at White & Case in New York. Craig received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1987 and served as Executive Editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law. He received his undergraduate degree in 1982 from Cornell University.
“Craig was a brilliant lawyer who cared deeply for his clients and his colleagues,” said Greg Klamrzynski, Chapman’s Chief Executive Partner. Partner Felicia Graham, a founding member of Chapman’s DC office with Craig noted, “I had the privilege of working closely with Craig for over 25 years. Our collaboration made me a better lawyer and my work more satisfying and enjoyable. Craig was a trusted advisor and friend to so many in the firm and the industry. He was always there when you needed him. Craig leaves behind an incredible legacy, and he will be greatly missed.”
