Chapman and Cutler LLP is pleased to announce that Peter M. Hong has joined the firm’s Corporate and Securities Department and Investment Management Group as a partner in the Washington, DC office. A recognized securities and commodities regulatory authority, Peter’s practice focuses on the registration and regulation of investment advisers, broker-dealers, commodity trading advisors, commodity pool operators, and introducing brokers, as well as the formation and ongoing compliance obligations of registered and private investment companies.

In addition to private practice, Peter spent four years at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and four years at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Peter started his legal career as a Trial Attorney in the Division of Enforcement at the CFTC prosecuting violations of the federal commodity laws and regulations. At the SEC, Peter spent the first two years in the Office of Chief Counsel in the Division of Enforcement and the next two years as Special Counsel in the Office of Disclosure Regulation in the Division of Investment Management where he participated in the development and amendment of rules to adapt regulatory structures to continuing changes in the investment management industry.

Peter joins Chapman from Stradley Ronon, where he served as co-chair of the firm’s derivatives and commodities practice group.

“We are very pleased that Peter chose Chapman,” said Greg Klamrzynski, Chapman’s Chief Executive Partner. “Peter’s depth of regulatory experience further enhances our firm’s formidable industry presence in the investment management sector.” Kelley Bender, Chapman’s Chief Operating Partner and member of the Investment Management Group, noted that “Peter is highly regarded for his work representing registered and private funds and related parties and we are delighted to welcome him to Chapman.”

"Chapman is a leading law firm to the investment management industry and is an excellent platform for my practice," said Peter. "I look forward to collaborating with this extraordinary team and contributing to the growth of the group."
