Overview
Kristin Walsh Hilson is a partner and member of Chapman's Public Finance Department. She focuses her practice on tax-exempt and taxable financings for health care, educational, and cultural institutions, serving as underwriters’ counsel, bond counsel, and borrower’s counsel across a range of financing structures. Kristin also represents financial institutions on municipal derivative transactions, including interest rate swaps and commodities hedging transactions.
Kristin regularly participates in public finance industry conferences, including events hosted by Women in Public Finance, the National Association of Bond Lawyers and the National Association of Health and Educational Facilities Finance Authorities.
Kristin started her career at Chapman after serving as a judicial extern to the Honorable Judge Donn Kessler of the Arizona Court of Appeals and participating in Chapman’s summer associate program during law school.
Representative Matters
- Served as bond counsel on a $1.1 billion bond issuance by a mountain state health facilities authority to benefit a multi-state health care system. Proceeds financed capital expenditures and refinanced prior obligations.
- Represented the underwriters in a $713 million bond issuance for a Pennsylvania health care provider. Proceeds supported capital projects and refinance prior obligations.
- Represented the underwriters in a $598 million bond issuance by a health and educational facilities authority for the benefit of a Missouri regional health system. Proceeds supported capital expenditures for a new patient tower and refunded prior bonds.
- Served as bond counsel on a $257 million bond issuance by multiple issuers to benefit a multi-state health care system. Proceeds financed capital expenditures and refunded prior bonds.
- Represented the underwriters in a $137 million tax-exempt and a $125 taxable bond issuance for the benefit of an Ohio regional health system. Proceeds refunded prior bonds, refinanced interim debt, and supported capital improvements across multiple hospital facilities.
