Overview

Mike Benz is a partner in Chapman's Litigation Group and has been practicing law since 1986. He has extensive experience representing secured and unsecured creditors and trustees in bankruptcy proceedings, workout matters and commercial litigation.

Mike regularly represents creditor clients in securitization and structured finance matters as they overlap with bankruptcy law. In addition, he advises creditor clients on municipal bankruptcy issues under Chapter 9 of the Bankruptcy Code.

He has argued cases in Bankruptcy and District Courts across the country, the Third, Seventh, and Ninth Circuit Federal Courts of Appeal, as well as before the Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Appellate Court.

He has also testified before the Rules Committee of the Illinois House of Representatives and the Judiciary Committee of the Illinois Senate in support of legislation relating to the rights of foster parents.
